What is slippage?

Articles in this section

Slippage is an inherent part of financial markets and trading.

When you place a market order you are essentially asking to be filled at the current price you see on your platform, however, if the market moves between the time you place your order and the time it has been filled, your order may be filled at a different price. The price can be higher or lower depending on the movement. Slippage can increase when markets become volatile, for example during high impact news.
